JEWISH HERITAGE  Private / Half Day Morning

THE STORY OF TURKISH JEWS who were deported from Spain in 1492, now living in Türkiye for more than 500 years in peace & harmony.

Start after breakfast for a tour in Galata, the centuries-old Jewish neighborhood with its famous tower built by Genoese. Visit to Neve Shalom Synagogue or Ashkenaz Synagogue (upon availability).

Drive to Balat along the Golden Horn, residential area of the Ottoman Jews where the “Star of David” still appears on the facades of some buildings.

Visit to Ahrida Synagogue, built in the 15th century and the Jewish Hospital (Or-Ahayim) from outside.

Visit to Zülfaris Jewish Museum of the Quincentennial Foundation and the “Oldies House” at Hasköy.

The Jewish Cemetery where the martyrs of Neve Shalom are buried. Stop at Ortaköy, first disembark point of the Sephardic Jews who were expelled from Spain by the religious disturbance of the Spanish King and Queen, desperate on the ships in the middle of the sea, not being excepted by any European country, except the Ottoman Sultan Beyazid Khan II. who welcomed them offering a safe and peaceful life. Last visit to Etz Ahayim Synagogue.

The Patriarchate at Fener, by the Golden Horn, is the heart of Orthodox Christianity. After Costantine the Great' s declaration of Christianity as the religion of Roman Empire, the capital was moved from Rome to Byzantium. With the conquest (1453) of Ottoman Empire, the seat of Patriarchate remained in İstanbul.

Church of Panagia of Blachernae, the best known and most celebrated shrine of the Holy Virgin located near Golden Horn, famed with the hagiasma (fountain of holy water), good to cure health problems, and the Hagion Lousma (sacred bath) good to clean the soul where the emperor also came to purify himself.

St. Savior in Chora (Kariye), originally a Byzantine monastery, dedicated to Jesus Christ the Savior, survived with fantastic mosaics and frescoes, portraying scenes from the Bible, the life and miracles of Jesus.

Pantocrator (Zeyrek), the monastic complex was one of the largest and best organized of the Byzantine period, comprising two churches and a funerary chapel, baths, a hospice for the aged, a hospital and a medical school, a hostel for travellers and a library. -from outside-

Church of St. Mary Pammacaristos (Fethiye), built in the XI. century by John Comnenus, displaying the aesthetic refinement attained to Paleologan age, originally belonged to a convent of nuns. Housed the Patriarchate for a while after the conquest.

Zoodochos Pege at Balıklı, dedicated to the Mother of God at Pege, with an underground cistern, full of gold fish related to a well-known miracle, and the fountain of holy water.

 St. Sergius & Bacchus, a landmark in Byzantine ecclesiastical architecture. Today it is known as the "Little Hagia Sophia”. -from outside-

Hagia Eirene, the old patriarchal church with its impressive size stands next to Hagia Sophia. -from outside-

Hagia Sophia, for many centuries was the largest church of Christendom, dedicated to Divine Wisdom, an attribute of Christ. Hagia Sophia played an important role as emperors were crowned and many victories were celebrated in this remarkable building.

Day 1: Early morning flight to Kayseri or night bus to Ürgüp. Walk through the “Fairy Chimneys” in Devrent Valley, Paşabağ (Monks’) Valley, practice pottery production with the ancient technique in Avanos. Visit to Göreme, the open-air museum“ holding the earliest churches and chapels carved in fairy chimneys presenting finest examples of frescoes, Pigeon Valley, petrified valley of Uçhisar, the highest point in the region.
Dinner at hotel and overnight.

Day 2: Visit to the Hospital Monastery. Walk into the “wonderland” at Kızılçukur (Red Valley) and the Village of Çavuşin with rock-cut dwellings. Underground City of Kaymaklı, rock-cut city beneath the earth up to 8-9 levels where early Christians used to hide from Roman and Byzantine persecution. Explore the rock formations in Çatalkaya. A fantastic overview of the fairy chimneys from Esentepe. Dinner at hotel and overnight.

Day 3: Derinkuyu Underground City, walk through amazing Ihlara Valley. Lunch at Belisırma. Visit to the monasteries at Yaprakhisar and Selime. Dinner at hotel and overnight.

Day 2: Full day tour of Cappadocia. Citadel of Uçhisar, open-air museum of Göreme Valley with “Fairy Chimneys”, underground city ofKaymaklı, Paşabağ (Monks’) Valley and Avanos.   Dinner at hotel and overnight in Cappadocia.

Day 3: Early departure for Konya, city of the " Whirling Dervishes". On the way, visit the 13th   century Seldjoukian Sultanhan Caravanserai. Visit to the Mausoleum of Mevlana, world   famous philosopher and poet and his theological school of the whirling dervishes. Dinner at hotel and overnight in Pamukkale.

Day 4: Visit to the ancient city of Hierapolis with the ruins of the biggest Necropolis Graveyard, Roman Baths, Basilica, unique formation of petrified calcium cliffs and stalactites. Drive to Aphrodisias, well preserved Greco-Roman settlement, dedicated to Aphrodite,
the Goddess of Love. Dinner at hotel and overnight in Kuşadası.

Day 5: Visit to the ancient Ionian city of Ephesus, the Roman Capital of Asia Minor, House of Virgin Mary and St. John Basilica. Lunch and drive to İzmir for evening flight or night bus to   İstanbul. (Sunday departures can be extended to “7 days“ terminating in İstanbul)

Day 6: Early departure for Pergamum. After lunch, visits of Aesculapium and Acropolis. Continue to Troy, the legendary town in the Iliad of Homeros. Visit to the Athena Temple. Drive to Çanakkale. Dinner at hotel and overnight in Çanakkale.

Day 7: After breakfast, cross the strait by ferry and drive to İstanbul along the shores of the   Marmara Sea. Return to İstanbul by tour bus.

Early morning flight to İzmir or night bus to Kuşadası and drive to Pamukkale (Cotton Castle), a beautiful and spectacular natural site near Denizli, unique in the world. Thermal spring waters have carved this fantastic formation of stalactites. Thermal waters have been used since Roman times for their therapeutic powers. Situated on the plateau are both thermal center with its motels, thermal pools and ruins on the ancient city of Hierapolis.

Monument on this side includes the ancient thermal baths which have been restored and converted into an archaeological museum.

After lunch continue to Pergamum Acropolis with Athena and Trojan Temples, Temple of Zeus, Temple of Dionysos, Gymnasium of Youth, Odeon, Library, Agora,
Great Theatre and Roman Bath.

Return to İzmir for evening flight or night bus from Kuşadası to İstanbul.



SEVEN CHURCHES OF REVELATION  Private / 3 Days Tour

Early Christianity took shape and was spread in Anatolia. Thus, a journey through this part of the world has something of the quality of a pilgrimage, both a physical and a spiritual search for the origins and realities of one’ s faith.

Day 1: Early morning flight to Smyrna (İzmir) or night bus to Kuşadası. Meet and continue to Ephesos (Efes), visit the old Greco-Roman city of Ephesus, most important of the “Seven Churches of Revelation” in Asia Minor where St. John brought Mary in fulfillment of his pledge to Jesus to protect her, and last abode of Virgin Mary at Mount Solmissos
where she is believed to have taken into heaven.

After lunch, continue to Laodicea (Denizli), crossroads of the ancient world. Dinner and   overnight in Pamukkale (Hierapolis).

Day 2: Departure after breakfast and visit the ancient city of Hierapolis, home of Philip the Evangelist. Proceed to Philedelphia (Alaşehir), the youngest of the Seven Churches of Revelation, visiting the still standing remains of an earlychurch and the city walls. Lunch on the way.

 Afternoon visit to the ruins of the church at Sardis (Salihli), the ancient Lydian capital holding an important place in mythology.

 Evening arrival at Thyatira (Akhisar), one of the principal towns where Christianity was spread from and visit the ruins of the church.

 Late evening drive to Pergamon. Dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Departure after breakfast and visit Pergamon (Bergama), the place where St. John wrote to the church of Pergamon “Satan’ s throne is sited”. The impressive structures dating back to 339 BC. Pergamon was a health center where methods of treatment such as therapy with music and water, meditation and blood transfusion were first used. After lunch drive to Smyrna (İzmir), recipient of a letter from St. Paul praising   the early believers for their faithfulness. Visit to St. Polycarp Church. After a short city tour, evening flight or night bus from İzmir to İstanbul.


İstanbul Archeology Museum

The İstanbul Archaeological Museums, a museum affiliated to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, is located in İstanbul's Sultanahmet neighborhood, on the Osman Hamdi Bey slope connecting the Gülhane Park with the Topkap› Palace. İstanbul Modern

Sunay Akın Toy Museum

It is the third best toy museum of the world.

Turkish poet and author Mr. Sunay Akın has opened the first and the only private toy museum of Turkey on 23. April. 2005. This opening date was not chosen randomly. April 23rd is an important day in the history of the Turkish Republic. It was on this day that the Grand National Assembly first met in 1923. It is also when the country simultaneously celebrates National Sovereignty and Children’s Day.

Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the Turkish Republic, dedicated this important date to the children of the world.

The interior décor and displays were arranged by stage designer. Each room resembles a different theater stage. For instance, when you enter the gallery of space toys, you encounter shining stars overhead, whereas miniature train sets are exhibited in a genuine train compartment. You have to pass through a submarine in order to reach the toilets on the basement. Visitors can relax in the the cafe where antique dolls, dollhouses and miniature furnitures are displayed on the walls. The museum also features a theater that has 70 seats and a gift shop where Sunay Ak›n's books and museum souvenirs are sold.
